Last week the Egg Press team got to go on a super fun tour (followed by yummy treats and drinks!) at Pinball Publishing/Scout Books. We look forward to hosting them at our place next week.
Pinball Publishing are old friends and veterans in the Portland printing community. They've morphed over the years from an all purpose print shop to a shop that focuses on Scout Books, maker of custom pocket notebooks, as their primary project (though they still print some killer silkscreen posters).
They structured our tour by taking us through the process of making a Scout Book from front to back using one of our own Egg Press prints, the "sprouts print" used on our New Year card.
We got to meet their press team first and then the rest of the staff. And of course Buddy the shop dog!
The tour was especially fun for our printers who got to get deep into printer's shop-talk and volley questions about perts and Kanban. While they can print as many as 13,000 books per day, they have found that slow(er) and steady wins the race and like to keep that number at about 4,000 as part of their lean manufacturing model.
Thanks for hosting us dear friends, we had a blast and learned so much!
