**UPDATE: We have a winner-- a big congrats to Lauren (Laurenhickers)! Thank you so much to everyone who entered. That was fun! We LOVED hearing all your great Dad-isms. Happy Father's Day to all you great Dad's out there from your friends at Egg Press.

In honor of all the Dad's out there we're hosting a fun Father's Day Giveaway! We know that a lot of well-meaning Dads are caught unprepared for card-giving occasions so we're giving away a YEAR'S WORTH OF CARDS to one lucky Dad.

How to enter:

1. In the comments below tell us your favorite Dad-ism. You know, the funny, dorky, weird, or wise thing that your Dad (or any special Dad in your life: Grandpa, Husband, Brother, Friend, Uncle) always says.

2. For an extra chance to win, share your Dad-ism on our Facebook page.

**The giveaway ends June 14th. The winner will be chosen at random and announced on both our blog here and on Facebook on Father's Day, June 15th.

The YEAR'S WORTH OF CARDS includes a hand-picked selection of 20 of our Dad-approved favorites including:

5 Birthday Cards
6 Thank You Cards
2 Sympathy Cards
2 Congrats Cards
2 Love Cards
3 Encouragement Cards

To get the ball rolling we thought we'd share some of our own favorite Dad-isms...

My Grandpa Joplin had a lot of great ones but is probably best remembered for his advice to "keep your chin up and your nostrils in the wind".

When I complained about a bad day growing up, my dad would always tell me that "if I ate some cat poop out of the litter box first thing in the morning, my day could only get better"! Haha.

“Never eat anything bigger than your head” and “Never stick anything smaller than your elbow in your ear”.

Every time our family would go out to dinner, without fail, my dad would try the same 3 joke during the course of the evening, and we always responded with the same groans of embarrassment.

The first joke (holding menu upside down): "Hey, they printed the whole menu upside down!"
The second joke (to the waitress after he finished his drink): "Nurse, I think someone put a sponge in my glass."
The third joke (after the meal was finished): "I feel more like I do now then when we first got here."

Weddingpalooza Part 3: Cassie and Aaron

Sep.30, 2014
categories: community, events, Friends

Love has really been in the air this Summer. Our third wedding feature is a double whammy of sorts in which two Eggpressers got married TO EACHOTHER. Aww...Our dear resident sweethearts Cassie and Aaron tied the knot in a very sweet, very them, wedding and party, followed by a great Hawaiian honeymoon. Read on for details...

Where/how did you get engaged?

For Thanksgiving last year, Aaron and I decided to rent a cabin, just the two of us, on Mt. Hood. We spent one of the days hiking around Trillium Lake which was totally frozen over and magical. We didn't realize that the park was closed and we were not supposed to be hiking there during the off season (which explains why we were pretty much the only people around). We stopped along the way to rest and after some time I asked Aaron if he was ready to continue the hike and he said "No..." and then dropped on one knee, fished a box from his jacket and proposed. It was a total, and very pleasant, surprise.

Can you tell us about your invites and anything about the design process?

We knew that we wanted to design the suite ourselves and involve a hand drawn element. After a couple months of back a forth and not feeling solid on what we were working on, I drew a tiny, rough sketch of some flowers on a piece of scrap paper. One night I came home to find that Aaron had scanned in the sketch, added type, and turned it into the invite. And with all the elements from earlier design ideas, we had plenty to pull from for signage throughout the event so all those rough drafts came into use.

Was there a theme to your wedding?

I guess I would say the theme was "personal" which seems obvious for a wedding but truly, almost every single element of the wedding had a hand-in from a good friend or family member and the love really showed. The decorations, music, drinks, flowers, photography and officiation were all done by friends. We have a talented group of people in our lives and we feel very lucky!

What was the location?

Our ceremony was held outdoors at the lovely Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden and the reception was also outdoors at our home in southeast Portland. PDX represent!

And the bride wore?

I had been struggling to find a dress so my good friend Kara hooked me up with a brilliant designer and seamstress, Diane Brush, who custom made my dress. It's a two piece dress inspired by the Cortana wedding collection. The top is halter style with an open back and made out of a super soft linen. The skirt is lined with 4 layers of thin soft cotton and two layers of tulle. It also has pockets where I stored my handkerchief, vows, and my hands when there wasn't a frozen margarita in them. I wore Loeffler Randall, metallic gold, gladiator style sandals that have this really great scallop along the straps.

What was the most exciting part of the wedding?

That's a tough one but I think our favorite part of the wedding was the spontaneous basement reunion show our friends put on at the end of the evening. It made all that beer and red wine on the carpet totally worth it.

A great big congratulations is in order to our friends at Schoolhouse Electric on their 10th anniversary! We were so happy to celebrate with them at an old-fashioned BBQ picnic on the front loading dock. There was lots of good food (Salt & Straw ice cream!) and cute kids, as well as new puppy on the block, the Boston Terrier "Blue". Oh and gorgeous flowers by Anna Mara, of course!

Schoolhouse Electric has come a long way in 10 years and we are so excited to see what they have up their sleeve for the next decade. You can check out founder and owner, Brian Faherty, speaking at this year's TEDxPortland event here.

Kata Golda + the EP holiday sample sale

categories: events, Friends, sale, studio

We first met Alison from Kata Golda yeaaaars ago at the National Stationery Show. We were already big fans as we'd seen her work at our local stationer, Oblation Papers and Press. Kata Golda incorporates many forms of craft including needlework, bookbinding, felting, pottery and letterpress printing. Throughout the aesthetic remains consistent: charming hand stitched or hand drawn illustrations of animals and things from the natural world, each with a personality of its own. To meet Alison was a thrill and to find out that she lived in the Pacific Northwest was icing on the cake. She has joined us at our Holiday Sample sale ever since.

The holiday SAMPLE SALE begins this coming Friday. In addition to great deals on Egg Press letterpress cards (not to mention a batch of things from Studio Olivine), Kata Golda will be here with great deals on ornaments, tooth fairy pillows, nature pals, tea cups, cups in cozies, zipper pouches, little journals, finger puppets, and DIY kits.
